In India, each and every coin will have a specific symbol on them beneath the year. Have you ever wondered what these symbols on Indian coins indicate?

Diamonds, star, dot, empty are the symbols that can be seen. These symbols indicate the places from where the coins are minted. In India, Coins are minted in four places. They are, Calcutta ( Established in 1757 ), Hyderabad ( Established in 1903 ), Mumbai ( Established in 1829 ) and Noida ( Established in 1984 )

Coins that are minted in Hyderabad will have a star sign and a Diamond symbol for coins minted in Mumbai. A Dot symbol indicates that the coins are minted in Noida. There will be no signs on coins that are minted in Calcutta.
